History

St. John’s Cemetery was established in 1852 by St. John’s Evangelical Church in North St. Louis, now known as St. John’s United Church of Christ.  Sitting on 32 acres of land in North St. Louis County, St. John’s Cemetery provides a quiet and serene setting in which to honor the lives of those resting here.  Among the grounds are lush trees, flowers and the “Shelter House” donated by the late Fred and Charlotte Esselbrugge.  St. John’s Cemetery – a nonprofit cemetery open to all – had its first burial in February 1859.   In 1927, the cemetery was incorporated and established as an Endowed Care (perpetual care) Cemetery.  Our goal is to honor those in our care, to serve the families of those resting here, and to maintain the beauty of the cemetery to honor the deceased, their families, and the community.
